Battery Maintenance

cranking a search engine with a hand crank to get it started went by the wayside when pre-and lead-acid battery is out. We use lead-acid batteries in our cars, boats, lawn mowers, snowmobiles, and many other vehicles. Unfortunately, we have given little thought to the maintenance free batteries. We just change the battery when it no longer works. We can extend the battery life for as long as five years, if we only have time to do a little maintenance batteries. I have a boat and lawn mower batteries 10 years old and still works. Perform battery maintenance will save you money and will help to protect our environment from excessive hazardous waste.
Do not put the battery on a concrete floor for storage. Put it on a wooden board or shelf. Remember When Removing the battery, even as a dead battery, the following safety tips. 1 Use eye protection.
2 Wear long sleeves and rubber gloves when refilling the battery fluid.
3 Prevent electrical sparks through. Tools away from the positive (+) terminal cable to the starter battery which is usually the positive pole
4 Clean deposits from the battery and wiring.
5 Neutralize spilled electrolyte with a solution of baking soda.
to prevent sparks and possible explosion, always disconnect the negative terminal first, followed by the positive. Lead-acid batteries vent hydrogen gas which high explosive. Any small spark ignites the hydrogen gas.
Before installing the battery ensures that it is fully charged. Then check the voltage does not necessarily mean that the battery is fully charged. Measuring the specific gravity of the electrolyte with a hydrometer is the only accurate way to determine if the battery is fully charged. If you do not have a hydrometer or a charger, battery on a service center for recharging. It takes about 24 hours to fully charge a car or boat of lead-acid batteries.
